Qatar overtime calculator

Work out normal, night and rest-day overtime from your basic salary. Every rate used is shown on screen and can be edited, so you can see exactly what was applied — and correct it against your own contract.

In short

Overtime in Qatar is paid on an hourly rate derived from the basic wage, plus a supplement. The statutory minimums commonly applied are at least 25% extra for ordinary overtime and at least 50% for night or rest-day work, calculated on basic salary with allowances excluded. The hourly rate is normally the monthly basic divided by 30 days, then by the standard daily hours — eight, or six during Ramadan.

Basic only — exclude housing, transport and other allowances.

Ramadan hours are shorter, so the hourly rate is higher.

Beyond standard hours, during the day.

Worked at night, where the higher supplement applies.

Worked on your weekly rest day.

Used only to flag if daily hours look excessive.

Rates applied

These are the statutory minimums as commonly applied. Edit any of them if your contract gives more, or if a rule has changed.

Ordinary overtime — basic hourly plus
Night overtime — basic hourly plus
Rest-day work — basic hourly plus
This is an estimate, not legal advice. It applies the statutory minimums as commonly understood, and labour rules are amended from time to time. Some roles sit outside the standard overtime provisions altogether. Confirm your own position with the Ministry of Labour, your PRO or a legal adviser before relying on any figure.
How it works

The rules behind the number

Standard working time in Qatar is eight hours a day and 48 hours a week, reduced during Ramadan to six hours a day and 36 hours a week. Hours beyond that are overtime, paid on the hourly rate derived from basic salary plus a supplement.

TypeSupplement commonly appliedNotes
Ordinary overtimeAt least 25% on the basic hourly rateDaytime hours beyond the standard day
Night overtimeAt least 50%Shift workers may be treated differently
Rest-day workAt least 50%A compensatory rest day may also be due

Two details cause most disputes. The first is the basis: overtime is calculated on basic salary, not the package, so an employee whose contract splits QAR 6,000 into 3,500 basic plus allowances is paid overtime on 3,500. The second is the daily cap — total working time including overtime is limited, so a rota that routinely exceeds it is a compliance problem rather than an expensive month.

Questions

Common questions about overtime in Qatar

How is overtime calculated in Qatar?

Overtime is paid on the hourly rate derived from the basic wage, with a supplement on top. Qatari labour law sets minimum supplements — commonly applied as at least 25% extra for ordinary overtime and at least 50% for work at night or on a rest day. Your contract may give more. The hourly rate itself is normally the monthly basic divided by 30 days and then by the standard daily hours.

What are normal working hours in Qatar?

Eight hours a day and 48 hours a week is the standard, reduced during Ramadan to six hours a day and 36 hours a week. Hours worked beyond that are overtime. Total daily working time including overtime is also capped, which is why a rota that routinely runs past it is a compliance question rather than just a payroll one.

Is overtime calculated on basic salary or total salary?

On the basic wage, with housing, transport and other allowances normally excluded — the same basis as end-of-service gratuity. This is why the hourly figure is often lower than employees expect from a package quoted as one total sum, and why the contract definition of basic salary matters.

What about working on a Friday or a rest day?

Work on a weekly rest day normally attracts a higher supplement, and in many cases a compensatory rest day as well rather than pay alone. The exact entitlement depends on your contract and the circumstances, so confirm it rather than assuming the pay supplement settles it.

Does this apply to everyone?

No. Certain categories — including some senior and supervisory roles, and workers covered by separate regulations such as domestic workers — sit outside the standard overtime provisions. If you are unsure whether your role is covered, that is worth confirming before relying on any calculation.

Are these figures official?

No. They apply the statutory minimums as commonly understood, and labour rules are amended from time to time. Every rate used is shown on screen and can be edited, so you can check what was applied and correct it. Confirm your own position with the Ministry of Labour or your PRO before relying on a figure.
