On-premise, cloud, or both

Cloud suits businesses that want no hardware to maintain, predictable monthly cost and access from anywhere. It depends on your internet connection, and the monthly cost continues indefinitely.

On-premise suits businesses with large local file usage, an unreliable connection, or a preference for data staying in the building. It costs more up front and needs maintaining. Most of our clients end up with a mix — ERP in the cloud, files and cameras local — and that is usually the honest answer rather than a compromise.

Backup is not backup until it has been restored

Almost every business we assess has backups. A meaningful share have never tested restoring one, and a share of those discover, at the worst moment, that the backup has been silently failing for months.

We configure backups on the sensible principle — more than one copy, at least one off-site, and one that ransomware cannot reach — and then we actually restore from them on a schedule. An untested backup is a hope, not a plan.

Keeping it running

Monitoring is what turns a server outage into a maintenance task.

  • Disk, memory and processor watched, so capacity problems are seen before they bite
  • Failed backups alerting immediately rather than being discovered later
  • Security patching applied on a schedule rather than when something breaks
  • Hardware health monitored — a failing drive replaced beats a failed one restored
