Qatar leave salary calculator

Work out your annual leave pay, and what you are owed for leave you have not taken when a job ends. Calculated on basic wage, as Article 72 of the Labour Law requires, with the rule shown beside every figure.

In short

In Qatar, annual leave pay is calculated on basic wage — Article 72 of the Labour Law says leave pay and gratuity are based on the Basic Wage on the due date, so housing, transport and other allowances are excluded unless your contract says otherwise. After a year of service you are owed at least three weeks a year, rising to four weeks from five years of service, and leave builds up in proportion for part-years. Leave you have not taken when a contract ends must be paid out in cash, and you cannot agree to give it up.

Rule applied — QatarAt least 21 days (three weeks) a year once you have a year of service, and 28 days (four weeks) once service reaches five years. Paid on basic wage (Article 72). Part-years count in proportion (Article 79).

Basic only — leave pay excludes allowances unless your contract says otherwise.

Only change this if your contract gives more than the law.

Across your whole service with this employer.

This is an estimate, not legal advice. It applies Law No. 14 of 2004 as written. Your contract may give more, and the days already taken, any leave carried over and how your employer counts leave days all change the answer. Confirm your position with the Ministry of Labour or a legal adviser before relying on any figure.
The law

What the Labour Law actually says

Three articles of Law No. 14 of 2004 decide this calculation. They are quoted here because much of what is written about leave pay in Qatar gets the first one wrong.

“The Remuneration of the Worker for the annual or sick leave and the end service gratuity shall be calculated on the basis of his Basic Wage on the due date.”Article 72

This is why the calculator uses basic salary. The law defines basic wage separately from total remuneration — basic plus allowances — and leave pay sits on the narrower one, the same basis as gratuity.

“This leave shall not be less than three weeks for the employment of less than five years, and four weeks for the employment of five years or more. The Worker shall be entitled to a leave for fractions of the year in proportion to the period of his service.”Article 79
“If the Employment Contract ended, for any reason, before taking such leave, the Worker shall be entitled to a cash alternative equivalent to his payment for the due leave days.”Article 81

Two points the law leaves to practice, and this calculator makes visible rather than hides. The daily rate: most employers divide the monthly basic by 30, some divide the annual basic by 365, so both are shown. And when the rate rises: the calculator applies 21 days for each of the first five years of service and 28 days a year after that, which is how the step to four weeks is commonly applied. If your employer counts it differently, set the days per year yourself.

Questions

Common questions about leave salary in Qatar

How is leave salary calculated in Qatar?

Daily basic wage multiplied by the number of leave days. Article 72 of Law No. 14 of 2004 bases leave pay on the Basic Wage on the date it falls due, so allowances are excluded unless your contract includes them. The daily rate is usually the monthly basic salary divided by 30; some employers divide the annual salary by 365 instead, which is slightly lower, so this calculator shows both.

How many days of annual leave do I get in Qatar?

Article 79 gives at least three weeks a year once you have a year of service, and at least four weeks once your service reaches five years. Leave also builds up in proportion for fractions of a year. Three weeks is 21 days and four weeks is 28. Many contracts give more, and a better contract always takes priority over the statutory minimum.

Does leave pay include housing and transport allowances?

Not as a statutory minimum. Article 72 says leave pay is calculated on the Basic Wage, and the law defines basic wage separately from total remuneration, which is the basic wage plus allowances. Many online calculators and articles include allowances, which overstates what the law requires. If your contract pays leave on full salary, switch that option on and enter your allowances.

What happens to unused leave when I leave my job?

You are paid for it. Article 81 says a worker cannot give up the right to annual leave, and if the contract ends for any reason before the leave is taken, the worker is entitled to a cash payment equivalent to the pay for the leave days due. Enter the leave you have already taken and the calculator shows the balance and its cash value.

Can my employer choose when I take leave?

Yes. Article 80 lets the employer set the date of the annual leave according to work requirements, and the leave can be divided. What the employer cannot do is make you waive it: leave that is due but untaken has to be given or paid.

Are these figures official?

No. They are estimates that apply the Labour Law as written, and the articles used are quoted on this page so you can check them. Your contract may give more than the minimum, and questions about days already taken, splitting or carrying leave over depend on your records. Confirm your position with the Ministry of Labour or a legal adviser before relying on any figure.
