A PA system distributes announcements, paging and background music across zones, so a message can reach one area or all. Most commercial installations use 100-volt line distribution, allowing long cable runs and many speakers on one circuit. Where the system also serves as voice evacuation it becomes life-safety equipment and must meet the civil defence requirements for the building.
Public address covers announcements, background music, paging and voice evacuation — in mosques, schools, warehouses, showrooms, hotels and industrial sites. Haya designs, supplies, installs and commissions PA and sound systems across Qatar.

Read moreIntelligibility is the whole job
A PA system is not judged on loudness. It is judged on whether a person at the far end of the space can understand the words. Those are different problems, and turning the volume up usually makes the second one worse.
Intelligibility comes from speaker placement, coverage overlap, and matching the design to how the room behaves — a warehouse with hard walls and high ceilings reflects sound quite differently from a carpeted showroom. Getting that right at design stage costs nothing extra; fixing it afterwards means moving speakers.
Zones, and why they matter
A single zone covering an entire site is the most common design mistake.
- Announcements reaching only the area that needs them, not the whole building
- Background music in public areas while back-of-house stays quiet
- Paging to a specific department without disturbing everyone else
- Different volume levels per zone, set once and remembered
- Priority override, so an emergency announcement interrupts music everywhere
Voice evacuation is a different standard
A system used for emergency announcements is life-safety equipment, not audio equipment. It needs monitored circuits, backup power, fault detection and, in many buildings, sign-off against the relevant standards.
If your building requires voice evacuation, say so at the enquiry stage. It changes the equipment, the cabling and the commissioning — and retrofitting a background-music system to meet those requirements generally means starting again.
PA and sound equipment we install
Specified for intelligibility in the actual space. Voice evacuation is life-safety equipment and is specified differently from background music.
Common questions
Why are announcements hard to understand?
Usually too few speakers turned up loud, not insufficient power. In a reverberant space a louder system frequently makes speech harder to follow. More speakers at lower volume, correctly zoned, is what produces intelligibility.
What is voice evacuation and do we need it?
A system giving clear spoken instructions in an emergency, which people follow considerably faster than a tone alone. Whether it is required depends on the building, and because it is life-safety equipment the specification and approval should be settled before installation rather than after.
Can one system do music and announcements?
Yes — background music with announcements overriding it, zoned so a message can go to one area or the whole site. That is the standard arrangement for retail, restaurants and hotels.
